Instructor:    Ryan Tafilowski

Location:  Horizon Christian Fellowship  5151 S. Federal Blvd. Unit C, Littleton, CO

As the Middle Ages waned and the first reverberations of the Reformation began to shake the foundations of Christendom, the Church was forced to come to grips with the religious, philosophical, and social challenges of Modernity. This course will seek to outline the splintering of the Church universal in the early 16th century and trace the development of the Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant traditions since the Reformation. The class will interact with major trends in modern theology, significant personalities from the Reformation, modern, and postmodern eras, and engage major issues in theology from the 16th to the 21st centuries. The class will explore the Church’s task of advancing and living the gospel in the modern world.

Apologetics — GS251D

First Day of Class:  Monday, January 24, 2:00pm-4:40pm

Instructor:  Bill Honsberger

Location:  Crossroads Bible Church  18511 E. Hampden Ave., #204, Aurora, CO

This class will take seriously that all Christians have been called to be missionaries, that non-Christians do have real arguments, real objections, real questions and that these are worthy of a response.  The knowledge of apologetics, both in negative and positive terms, will be seen as an integral part of the missionary effort.  The class will look at the major styles of apologetic witness and will see the strengths and weaknesses of each approach.  The class will also cover several belief systems and religions, which are opposed to Christianity, with an eye to using apologetics as part of daily witness to them.  The class will necessarily involve some "heavy lifting" through academic sources, but will also apply practical conversational steps and lifestyle choices, which enhance, verify and broadcast our Christian witness.

The Book of Acts — BL540D

First Day of Class: Friday, January 28, 2:00pm-4:40pm

Instructor:   Bill Honsberger

Location: Crossroads Bible Church 18511 E. Hampden Ave., #204, Aurora, CO

The Book of Acts is the turning point in the New Testament.  It is a record of the birth of the Church and the triumphs and struggles of God’s covenant people to become a united people.  It also shows an unfolding of the Lord’s hand of mercy extended to the Samaritans and to the goyim – gentiles of every nation.  The class will address many questions that the book raises for the contemporary church – “Is the gift of tongues for today and or obligatory for true faith?” “In what manner do we baptize?” and many other pivotal issues.   The student will gain an appreciation for what God started in the community of believers and how those lessons are to be lived out today.

American culture has changed immensely since the 1960’s yet many of the techniques and philosophies of present day outreach remain unchanged.  This course on personal evangelism will equip the student with proper attitudes and effective tools for reaching the many who are not interested, not needy and not looking for salvation from a condemnation they do not believe in.  Emphasis will be given to conversational, questioning evangelism where sowing, weeding and watering are included along with reaping as God opens minds and hearts.
